The state bird of Hawaii is the Nene, which is also called the Hawaiian Goose. These waterfowl are the only living species of goose to live on an isolated island naturally. The Nene was down to just 30-some wild birds in the 1950's. Successful captive breeding programs have helped the wild Nene population to reach about 800 individuals. This magnificent bird is not out of danger yet, but the state bird of Hawaii is protected and conservationists around the world continue to fight for its survival. Our original tribute design to this state bird features a cute cartoon Nene standing before the official flag of the state of Hawaii.
