The Black-capped Chickadee is the state bird of Massachusetts. It seems that officially the state bird is the "Chickadee", but there are several species of chickadee. Only one is regularly found in Massachusetts, so there's no mystery. The Black-capped Chickadee was designated the official state bird in 1941 by the Massachusetts legislature. Black-capped Chickadees can be found year-round all over the state. This cute original design from Birdorable has our cartoon Black-capped Chickadee standing before the flag of Massachusetts.
