Baby Birdorable: Ostrich

May 21st, 2010 in Baby Birds, Ostriches 2 comments

If you think our Birdorable birds are cute as adults, what about when they are babies? Below are some baby photos (shared via Flickr) of the Ostrich. Everyone knows Ostriches are flightless. So why the 2-meter wingspan? Ostriches use their wings in mating rituals, but also to shade chicks! Pretty cute, right? Females lay their eggs in communal nest pits constructed by the males. Nests average about 20 eggs! Males and females work together to raise the chicks after they hatch.
