The Southern Ground-Hornbill is the largest species of hornbill in the world. It lives in the savanna habitats in sub-Saharan Africa. They have mostly black plumage and black beaks. Bright red bare skin is found on the face and throat. Long lashes protect their eyes from dust, sharp sticks and bright sunshine. Females are a bit smaller than the males and can be identified by a patch of blue at the throat.
