Dark-eyed Juncos are small birds of the sparrow family. They are typically dark in the head and back, and light in the chest area. There are several sub-species of this cute little bird. This is the slate-colored subspecies of the Dark-eyed Junco. Male slate-colored have deep gray backs, while females have a bit of brownish tinting. They live across a wide range of eastern North America, with an expanded winter range.
