Palila

Bandana

The Palila is a special species of finch endemic to Hawaii, where it is only found on the Big Island. It feeds almost exclusively on materials produced by the Mamane tree, including buds, leaves, seeds, and nectar. They also nest in these trees, which are disappearing due to deforestation. The Palila is unfortunately Critically Endangered.
