Barn Swallow

The Barn Swallow is one of the most widespread birds in the world. It can be found in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. The global population is estimated at 190 million. It has blue upperparts, a long forked tail and pointed wings.

It is a bird of open country and it normally uses man-made structures to breed by building a cup nest from mud pellets in barns or on other buildings. It feeds on insects and has therefore been tolerated by humans when it shares their buildings for nesting.
