About the Black-winged Stilt
Also known as: Pied Stilt
Black-winged Stilt

The Black-winged Stilt is a long-legged wading bird. Their distinctive long legs are bright pink; their body plumage includes black upperparts and white upperparts. They also sport long, thin black beaks, used for foraging in shallow water.

Black-winged Stilts live in marshland, shallow lakes and other wetland habitats. They range in western and southern Europe, and parts of Asia, Africa, and Asia.

The taxonomy of the Black-winged Stilt is somewhat contentious, with scientists in disagreement as to the classification of several closely related birds of the stilt family. Black-winged Stilts are very closely related to Black-necked Stilts.
