California Quail

The California Quail is the state bird of California. It is a small (smaller than a pigeon) ground-dwelling bird that is native to the southwestern part of the United States. It has also been introduced to areas in British Columbia, Hawaii, Chile, New Zealand and Norkfolk Island and King Island in Australia.

The California Quail is a sociable bird that often gathers in small flocks that are known as coveys and one of their daily activities is taking dust baths.
