Also known as: Christmas Island Shearwater
Christmas Shearwater

The Christmas Shearwater is a medium-sized shearwater species found in Pacific waters around Hawaii and other tropical and subtropical island groups, including Christmas Island. The species is also known as the Christmas Island Shearwater.

The Christmas Shearwater feeds on a variety of fish that it feeds on by surface hunting or shortly plunging into the water in pursuit. To help them retain prey once captured, they have specialized inward-angled serration on their beaks and tongue.

Christmas Shearwaters aren’t flashy birds; they have an entirely dark brown body plumage. Juveniles look the same as adults and males and females are also similar in appearance.
