Common Gallinule

The Common Gallinule is a common species of rail that lives across parts of North America, mainly in the east and south. The species was split from the Common Moorhen in 2011.

Common Gallinules have dark body plumage, with yellow legs and a bright red facial shield. They are very good swimmers, preferring to nest in marshy environments. Despite their affinity for water, Common Gallinule feet are neither webbed or lobed.
