About the European Starling
Also known as: Starling, Common Starling, Eurasian Starling
European Starling

European Starlings are native to most of Europe and western Asia. These noisy, gregarious and colorful birds have also been introduced to Australia, New Zealand, North America, and South Africa. The European Starling is among the most familiar of birds in temperate regions in the world, and is often seen in large groups.

They are beautifully colored shiny black, glossed purple or green, and spangled with white, especially so in winter.

Starlings live in a variety of habitats and are well-adapted to live in and near human settlements. European Starlings are omnivorous, eating a wide variety of invertebrates, fruit, and seeds. They also will scavenge from dumps and readily visit bird feeders.
