About the Galapagos Penguin
Also known as: Galápagos Penguin
Galapagos Penguin
The Galapagos Penguin is one of approximately 20 species of penguin in the world. They are the species with the northernmost range and the only penguins to live north of the equator. They are mostly found on two islands of the Galapagos: Fernandina Island, and Isabela Island.

Galapagos Penguins have special adaptations to help them keep cool in their tropical latitude habitat, including using their wings and bodies to shelter their bare feet from the heat of the sun, and panting to cool the throat and airway. The most used method for cooling off is jumping into the water!

Galapagos Penguins are considered to be endangered, and the most endangered of all penguin species. One of the many threats they face is predation by introduced predators, like cats on Isabela Island.
