Golden-cheeked Warbler

About the Golden-cheeked Warbler
Golden-cheeked Warbler

The Golden-cheeked Warbler is a small species of migratory songbird that breeds in central Texas. During the winter these little birds fly south to parts of Mexico and Central America. Golden-cheeked Warblers feed almost exclusively on insects.

Golden-cheeked Warblers have specific breeding requirements. They nest in open oak scrubland where they use material from juniper trees for nest construction. Like other habitat specialists, this specific requirement has been harmful to the global population. Loss of habitat has negatively impacted the species. The conservation status for the Golden-cheeked Warbler is Endangered as of October 2014.
