About the Golden-crowned Sparrow
Golden-crowned Sparrow

The Golden-crowned Sparrow is a large species of American sparrow found across much of the Pacific coast from Baja California to Alaska. Golden-crowned Sparrows are migratory; they spend more time on their wintering grounds than many other migratory species.

Golden-crowned Sparrows are chunky birds, identified by their black heads crowned by a yellow streak during breeding season. Their breasts are unstreaked and they have two white wing-bars.

This species is under-studied and little is known about their breeding habits. Their population trend is increasing and their conservation status is Least Concern as of July 2014.
