The Northern Mockingbird is the only one of 17 global species of mockingbirds found in North America. It breeds in North America from southeastern Canada to the Bahamas, Cayman Islands and Greater Antilles. Further south it is replaced by its closest living relative, the Tropical Mockingbird.
Northern Mockinbirds are best known for imitating other birds. It imitates not only birds but also other animals and mechenical sounds such as car alarms.
It is the state bird of Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.
