Palm Cockatoo

About the Palm Cockatoo
Also known as: Goliath Cockatoo, Great Black Cockatoo
Palm Cockatoo

The Palm Cockatoo is a large species of parrot native to the extreme northeastern part of Australia. Their distinctive plumage is slate-grey and they sport bright red featherless cheeks. They have a long, shaggy head crest.

Palm Cockatoos have extremely large and strong bills, which they use to break off thick branches used for a drumming display. Palm Cockatoos breed every two years, laying just one egg. Their lifespan may make up for their low breeding success rate; Palm Cockatoos have lived to over 55 years of age in captivity.
