About the Prothonotary Warbler
Prothonotary Warbler

The Prothonotary Warbler is a small species of songbird that lives across parts of eastern North America. Prothonotary Warblers are named for the bright yellow color of the males. Prothonotaries were clerks of the Roman Catholic Church, and their traditional robes were yellow in color.

Unlike most species of warbler, Prothonotary Warblers nest in tree cavities. Their preferred habitat is woodland near water, or flooded woodland.

Prothonotary Warblers feed by gleaning insects from tree foliage.
