Ring-necked Dove

The Ring-necked Dove is a species found across much of eastern and southern Africa. They have adapted to live in a wide variety of habitat types, including forest, farmland, and scrubland. They have a mostly plant-based diet, feeding mostly on seeds, fruits, and berries. They will also take insects on occasion.

Ring-necked Doves can be recognized by their mostly grey body plumage and by the black collar across the back of its neck for which it is named. They are also known as the Cape Turtle Dove or the Half-collared Dove.

Ring-necked Doves are common throughout their range and their trilling call is a typical African savanna sound.
