Surf Scoter

The Surf Scoter is a species of sea duck found around coastal waters of North America. These migratory ducks breed around Canada and Alaska; winters are spent along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the continent.

Adult male Surf Scoters have an all black plumage; females are brown. Adult males also have characteristic white facial patches and a bill that appears orange.

Surf Scoters feed on a variety of marine invertebrate species, which they usually consume while underwater. Their diet includes clams, snails, crabs, and small fish.
