Wood Duck

Wood Ducks are a species of waterfowl that live across much of North America. Males sport unmistakably multicolored plumage which includes an iridescent green head, rusty red breast, and a red eye. Females are duller but both sexes sport a long drooping head crest.

Wood Ducks typically lay up to 14 eggs, but a nest may include 40 eggs or more, laid by different females. Nests are usually close to water in a tree cavity or a nest box. The nestlings will leave the nest for water just one day after hatching. They are able to feed themselves almost immediately.
