Dodo

About the Dodo

The dodo was a flightless bird endemic to Mauritius, an island in the Indian Ocean. It was a big bird that was about 3.3 feet tall and weighted 44 pounds. It has been extinct since the mid-to-late 17th century.

Its name is thought to come from the Dutch word dodoor (sluggard) or dodaars (knot-arse), referring to the knot of feathers on its hind end.
