European Robin

About the European Robin

The European robin is a small songbird commonly that can be found all over Europe to Western Siberia, south to Algeria and on the Atlantic Ocean as far as the Azores and Madeira. It is easily recognizable by its bright orange-red breast and face, contrasting with its olive-brown upperparts and white belly.

European robins inhabit a variety of environments, including woodlands, gardens, and parks. They are known for their melodic, warbling song, often heard throughout the year, especially during the breeding season. Robins are territorial and can be quite aggressive in defending their territory.

These birds are primarily insectivorous, feeding on insects, spiders, and worms. In winter, they also eat berries and seeds. Robins are known for their curious and bold behavior, often approaching humans closely, especially in gardens where they search for food.

European robins build their nests in dense vegetation, using moss, leaves, and feathers. They typically lay 4-6 eggs, which hatch after about two weeks of incubation by the female. Both parents participate in feeding and caring for the chicks.
