The Northern Lapwing is a species of plover found in temperate parts of Europe and Asia. The name lapwing comes from the "lapping" sound made by the bird's wings while in flight. The plumage of the Northern Lapwing is mostly black and white, with an iridescent green tint to the back. Males can be recognized by their long thin crests.
