Tropical Parula

About the Tropical Parula

Also known as: Olive-backed Warbler, Sennett's Olive-backed Warbler, Sennett's Warbler, Socorro Warbler, Tropical Warbler

The Tropical Parula is a small species of warbler that breeds as far north as southern Texas. Unlike many other warbler species, the Tropical Parula is not migratory.

Male Tropical Parulas have grey-blue upperparts and orange-yellow breasts. Juvenile and female birds have similar colors but are duller.

Tropical Parulas feed primarily on insects and other small arthropods. They will supplement their diet with berries and other vegetation on occasion.
