The Western Tanager is a medium-sized songbird that lives in western North America into Mexico and Central America. They are migratory, breeding in the western United States and Canada, and wintering well south of the U.S. border.

Male Western Tanagers have bright red faces, with yellow necks, shoulders, and rumps. The wings, back and tail are black.

Western Tanagers eat primarily insects, which they find by foraging in foliage or by catching bugs on the fly. To a lesser degree, they also eat fruits, berries, or nectar.
