About the Whinchat
Also known as: European Whinchat, Marsh Bushchat
Whinchat
The Whinchat is a small species of songbird found across much of the Old World, including all over Europe, most of Africa, and much of northern and central Asia.

The taxonomical classification of the Whinchat has changed over time as we learn more about DNA. Previously categorized with the thrush family, the Whinchat is now considered to be closely related to Old World flycatchers.

Whinchats are ground nesters; females create a nest of moss and dried grasses with a soft lining of fur or hairs. They feed mainly on insects as well as spiders, worms, and other very small invertebrates.
